Safeguarding Children Assurance Statement
Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to safeguarding children. In
response to the findings from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) review, published in July 2009, the Trust has
therefore reviewed its safeguarding children arrangements and can confirm that these are robust and meet
statutory and good practice requirements.
In July 2009, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) published a report outlining the findings from
their review of the arrangements in place within the NHS for safeguarding children.
In response to those findings, the Trust has reviewed its arrangements for safeguarding
children and is assured that these arrangements are robust and, in particular, can confirm that:
-
The Trust meets the statutory requirement with regard to the
carrying out of Criminal Records Bureau checks on relevant employees.
-
Child protection policies and systems are up to date and robust,
including a process for following up children who miss out-patient appointments and a system for flagging
children for whom there are safeguarding concerns.
-
All eligible staff have undertaken and are up to date with
safeguarding training at Level 1 and a training plan is in place for staff that require more in depth training
e.g. Levels 2 or 3. As recommended by the CQC, a review of the Trust’s training arrangements will be completed
within 6 months of the date of the report and will take account of emerging messages from the national review.
The Trust also plans to implement the Educare on-line e-learning package to support the ongoing delivery of
Level 1 training.
-
Named professionals are clear about their roles and have sufficient
time and support to undertake them. With the recent agreement to separate the designated nurse role (PCT
responsibility) from that of the named nurse (Trust responsibility), the Trust has increased the safeguarding
team establishment in order to provide additional named nurse support.
-
The Medical Director is the Trust’s Board level Executive Director
lead for safeguarding. An annual safeguarding children report is submitted and reviewed by the Trust Board and
other issues are referred as required. Robust audit programmes are in place to ensure that safeguarding
systems and processes are functioning effectively.
The Trust takes its responsibilities for safeguarding seriously and would want to assure the
public and service users, through the publication of the above declaration, that the arrangements in place are
robust and meet all statutory and good practice requirements.
