Protap Gupta
Staff Governor
I was appointed as a consultant in Genitourinary Medicine in
1975. Except for a brief period I have worked single-handed caring for patients
in two districts. I have served on various committees locally, regionally and
nationally. If elected, I shall be able to bring my unique experience of working
as a single-handed consultant caring for patients. as I now work part-time, I
look forward to being able to devote more time to working with the Trust and my
fellow Governors to improve the standards of care for all patients. |

Jim Rhodes
Staff Governor
In am standing for the staff constituency of the
forthcoming election to the Council of Governors knowing that the next few years
will see dramatic changes to the health and related services we provide to the
community. We have all been informed that change is coming but as yet there is
no great detail apart from what you read in the press. I am standing to ensure
that you as the providers of the services have your say in what will happen. Why
vote for me this will be the question you will ask in order to give you a better
opportunity to make you decision I have outlined some detail about me. I am an
employee of the Trust and work within the human resources team in that role in
my working life I have developed very good interpersonal, communication and
decision making skills that are required for this role. I am concerned about the
people who work for the Trust and will try to ensure information about what is
happening to the trust is given to each of you before it is passed to outside
media. I have over 20 years experience in voluntary activities outside normal
working for the community within North Lincolnshire. If you decide to vote for
me then what you will get is an honest individual who will carry out the role
with the utmost dedication and energy. Thank you for reading this message.

Lesley Barsley
Staff Governor
I am standing for election as a governor / member of the Trust,
as I am committed to helping provide an excellent service for patients. I
consider that I have the interests of my fellow workers at heart, and strongly
believe that the welfare of the staff is fundamental in raising the standards
within all NHS Trusts. I have lived within the area for all of my
life, so have strong links to the locality. I first started working in the
Finance department Scunthorpe General Hospital in 1975, taking a five year break
to have my children, returning in 1985 to do Nurse training. Since 1985, I have
worked in a variety of nursing roles at different grades, from Staff Nurse
through to Ward Manager, and now working as a Nurse Practitioner, with this
experience I can represent staff from all disciplines. My fundamental reason for
applying is to help ensure the continued success of the organisation through the
present very difficult times, ensuring staff and patients concerns are voiced at
the appropriate levels. |

Joanna Preston
Staff Governor
I first joined the NHS in 1983, as a Student Nurse in Bradford,
in the days when Matron ruled with a loud voice and hospital beds were remade on
a whim! Working for the National Childbirth Trust, whilst raising
my children kept me up to date with NHS issues, particularly maternity.
Returning to work in 2006 I learned we are ruled by Commissioners, paperwork,
tariff and target. The pen seems mightier than the scalpel!
Working as part of a Multi-Agency Team in the Child Development Centre and
undertaking the Clinical Quality Improvement Course has demonstrated that we
don’t produce anything, we don’t make cars! And we need to acknowledge that. We
offer a service and although on paper our patients have ‘Choice’ geographically
many of them have no other option. In that case it is our duty to be the very
best we can be, and Quality in their eyes can cost nothing, a simple smile,
hello and an introduction from your Clinical Team is Quality in patient’s eyes.
As a governor I would hope to represent all the essential staff who never gets
seen by the public or the patients but who form an integral part of our service
delivery. Clinicians should lead on care and not the form filling; patients
should be our first thoughts and our defining thoughts in everything we do on
behalf of the Trust. I‘ll be the voice that says “We can. Now, let’s find the
way.” |

Ron Kitching
Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire I have lived
in Cleethorpes for 15 years since retiring from business. During my career I
owned and managed various companies. 10 years ago I founded the ‘Grimsby and
District Health Care Charity’ and continue to be a working chairman raising
money for the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, achieving approximately £60,000
pa. For the last 11 months I have been a governor of the hospital, successfully
sitting on three different committees. I put myself forward for a second term as
I wish to continue to work for the good of the hospital, staff and patients. |

Philip Bond
Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire I was
privileged to be elected to serve this community in the 2006 elections and have
played a full and active part in helping shape the Trust in moving forward.
In respect of Trust work, I am currently Chairman of the Membership Committee,
which has responsibility for encouraging the public to become members of the
Trust and also arranging events for members. I am also Chairman of the Trust
Appointments and Remuneration Committee and in that role, I am heavily involved
in the appraisal of performance as well as recruitment of Non-Executive
Directors to the Trust Board. I applied to be a Public Governor
following ill health retirement as Principal Legal Adviser to Magistrates in
Grimsby. I had over thirty year’s legal and managerial experience in that role.
I have been a school governor for 27 years and have been Chairman of Governors
at Tollbar Business and College since 1992. I spent 9 years as a Parish
Councillor in New Waltham (6 of which were spent as Chairman). I have recently
been elected as a Member of the Accord Commissioning Board for the Clee/Yarborough
Doctors areas. Considerable voluntary service to the community together with my
skills and ability make me a suitable candidate for office. Illness made me
acutely aware of the need for an effective and efficient public health service,
delivered locally and available to all. I would be honoured to continue my work
as a Public Governor for this area. |

Jeff Shaw
Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire I have always lived in NE
Lincolnshire and have been employed by the Ambulance service for over 30 years
in various positions.
I presently hold a managerial post, I feel this has given me a lot of
experiences and knowledge of the NHS to bring with me. For four years I was
member of a patients forum and was involved in services for the elderly. |

Eileen Blanchard
Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire My name is
Eileen Blanchard and I have lived all my life in Cleethorpes and Grimsby. I was
a dual member of the Patient and Public Involvement Forum for both Northern
Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital NHS Trust and also for the Primary Care Trust
for North East Lincolnshire from the beginning to the ends of the Forums. During
those years I visited the three main hospitals, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, and Goole
and I spent a lot of time being trained in various ways, Disability Awareness,
Community Engagement, Communication, to name but a few. I am now a member of the
North East Lincs. Local Involvement Network. I learnt a lot both in the hospital
area and in the Primary Care Trust Area. As a parent, a carer and a patient, I
have experiences from all sides of the spectrum. I would very much like to
continue the work that I have started, I can work effectively as a member of a
team and would like the opportunity to be responsive to views and experiences of
patients, services users, their carers, and the wider public to help improve
both Health and Social services for the community. |

Liz Stones
Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire
I was born in Grimsby and have recently retired from Northern
Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2011 after forty three
years of service. I started my nursing career in 1968. Throughout my career I
have worked in the clinical field as a ward manager and matron. Latterly I
worked in managerial roles as the Assistant Divisional Manager for Surgery &
Critical Care and my last role was the Deputy Director for Patient Services at
the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.
Since retirement, I have joined the management committee of
CRUSE bereavement care in a voluntary capacity.
Throughout my career, my main aim has always been to ensure
patient care is paramount. I feel very strongly that every user of the service
leaves the hospital with the reassurance and satisfaction they have been given
optimum treatment and care.
My managerial role within the Trust has given me the experience
within budgetary management, service delivery managing change, problem solving,
Clinical Governance and meeting local and government targets.
I feel I have good communication skills, empathy and integrity
and I strongly believe the views of the service users should be sought, in
helping determine patient satisfaction and good outcomes.
As a Foundation Trust I feel we have the ability to help mould
the future for our area and I feel that my experience within the local NHS can
help achieve this. |

Maureen Dobson
Public Governor - North Lincolnshire I have 48 years
experience working as a nurse in the N.H.S and as a Nurse Advisor in the private
sector within the Occupational Health and Safety area to industry. I have seen
the changes in nurse training and in hospital management at all levels and
departments. Having experienced treatment as an in patient and an out-patient at
Scunthorpe Goole and Grimsby hospitals in the last few years I can see how
things are on both sides of the fence. |

Hugh Rogers
Public Governor - North Lincolnshire As providers of
secondary healthcare, your Hospitals Foundation Trust is dependent upon
efficient communications, both with patients and those who work at primary care
level, in order to achieve the best possible quality of service to the
community. Much has been achieved during my first term of office.
I have been able to use my PR experience to help this process along. Governors
and Members are now vastly better informed on the Trust's activities. In
particular, the Members' Newsletter has improved out of almost all recognition.
There are important developmental steps towards creating a Trust which is fully
and constructively, connected to the community it serves. As we face up to these
challenges and make decisions which may be of vital importance to you and those
close to you, I want to make sure that as far as possible, you, the Members and
the wider public too, come with us on our journey towards the future of
healthcare in our region. There are difficult times ahead, I would like to
continue to face them on your behalf as an elected Governor. I ask for your
support. |

Paul Grinell
Public Governor - North Lincolnshire
I am 56 years of age and have lived in the Scunthorpe area for most of my life.
Now retired, I worked in banking and the legal profession and have extensive
financial and administrative experience. These skills were also deployed during
a five year stint as treasurer of a local golf club. I wholeheartedly endorse
the fundamental principles of the NHS i.e. comprehensive healthcare, available
to all, uniform quality regardless of location. However, my personal experience
over the past decade (as both inpatient and outpatient) suggests that these
worthy aspirations are sometimes compromised by inadequate communication with
patients, poor organisation, and administrative inefficiency. Furthermore,
whilst the NHS is an enormously valuable part of our society, it is also hugely
expensive, and those funding it are entitled to expect its resources to be
employed wisely and cost-effectively. If elected, I would therefore hope to make
a worthwhile contribution towards improving efficiency, eradicating wasteful
practices, and delivering a value for money service to North Lincolnshire
residents. |

Neville Dawson
Public Governor - North Lincolnshire
I have lived in Scunthorpe most of my life, I a retired engineer
both in engineering and construction. I was involved in an industrial accident
in 1977, as a result I lost my left leg above the knee.
For the last 29 years I have been the secretary of the
Scunthorpe & District Disabled Access Group. I still continue in this position.
During that time I have learnt a considerable amount about disabilities and
access problems.
I am a trained benefit advisor and a representative at tribunals
losing only one. If elected although wheelchair bound I will work with the
Trust, preferably with staff. Bringing all my past experience gained with me
over 29 years etc. |

Harold Edwards
Public Governor - North Lincolnshire
I believe the Trust in the current climate of austerity is
facing challenging times to maintain high quality care in line with patients
expectations.
Having suffered chronic health conditions for a decade, meant
experiencing all aspects of the Trust's health care plus external providers both
in and outpatient. Qualifying me to communicate patient needs effectively to the
Trust.
During my career I worked extensively abroad in the
International Steel Trade in UK, Europe, former USSR and Australasia at senior
and board level and as MD of my own company. Experiencing the vagaries of
provision of health care internationally, this reinforced a personal belief that
our right of free high quality heath care regardless of individual circumstance
is sacrosanct.
Having served as Chairman of the Barnetby Parish Council, Rural
Affordable Housing Steering Group Northern and North East Lincolnshire, Trustee
Director of Humber Wolds Rural Community Council, engaging in other voluntary
activities, meant having to engage with both public and private bodies at all
levels for communal benefit. On a voluntary basis I also participate in NHS
chronic disease research studies.
If elected, I am confident using my commercial, interpersonal
and life skills, to jointly contribute towards the maintenance of consistent
high quality health care yet provided cost efficiently within the Trust's discal
constraints for the common benefit.
It would be a privilege to be elected to a Trust that provided
vital life saving healthcare in my time of need. |
Public Governors
Goole and Howdenshire

Susan Diack
Public Governor - Goole and Howdenshire
I came to live in the Goole area in 1974 to work alongside my
husband managing the Vikings Hotel. During this time I became a Co-opted
Governor at Parkside Primary School for almost ten years.
Following my retirement from the Vikings in 1995 I volunteered
with the local Citizens Advice Bureau. In January 2000 this developed into a
part-time paid role as a Volunteer Development Co-ordinator and Advice Session
Supervisor.
Within my life roles as mother and wife and my own personal
experience as an NHS customer, together with some of the issues raised at work,
I believe I have gained an insight to many of the services the NHS trust
provides in my local area, both good and bad.
With the proposed government plans to change how the NHS will
operate I believe that there is an increased need for the Foundation Trust to
ensure that the public voice is heard.
I work effectively as a member of a team and would like the
opportunity to listen and take forward the public's views helping to improve the
NHS services to the local community.
I am applying to be elected to the Council of Governors as I
feel that my own personal life experiences would enable me to make a worthwhile
contribution to the future of the Foundation Trust and the people of Goole &
Howdenshire. |

Roy Taylor
Public Governor - Goole and Howdenshire
I have lived in the Goole area for over thirty years.
During the last 15 years I have been involved in youth work and
the St. John Ambulance. Whilst with the St John Ambulance along with other
colleagues, we started a door to door shopping service for the elderly and
disabled citizens.
Since the beginning of 2011 along with others I have been an
active member of the Goole Forward and The Goole Focus groups trying to find
ways of improving and increasing the facilities at Goole and District Hospital.
I strongly believe that our hospital is the best, the staff at
the hospital are second to none.
If I am fortunate enough to be elected I shall continue to put
the views of the Goole Forward and Goole Focus groups at the top of my agenda. |
Public Governors
East and West Lindsey
|
|

|
Sheila Fisher
Public Governor - East and West Lindsey As a retired
State Registered Nurse of forty years, having experience in various aspects of
nursing. I retired three years ago when I became a Governor of the Foundation
Trust from its beginning. During the past three years as a Governor I have been
involved with its activities, attending all Governor’s meetings, contributing to
discussions of various aspects of the Trust. I have engaged myself in
participating in many Ward Reviews, Hospital Stands in recruiting members,
Infection Control meetings, Presentation to Members Lecturers. The reason I wish
to stand for re-election as a Governor is to continue knowledge I have gained in
contributing to the progress achieved. I feel passionate that the Foundation
Trust plays a great contribution to the N.H.S. of today. Giving the “detail” to
basic requirements, not just “ticking” the boxes. Care incorporating general
“well being” of patients. as a Governor I can help these factors be achievable,
I am able to have on going contact with the Trust. If re-elected I will continue
my commitment to the best of my ability. |

Jeremy Baskett
Public Governor - East and West Lindsey
At a time of change within the NHS local patients will worry
about many aspects of their NHS treatment. As a local resident who has lived in
Louth for the past 12 years I know what those concerns are and want to ensure
that they are understood by our local hospitals.
My background is working in the NHS – having both a managerial
and clinical role – so I understand how they work, and how best to make them
work for the patient.
Ensuring that NHS services and hospital services are provided as
close to people’s homes as possible will be the key challenge over the coming
times, and I am keen to ensure that we meet this challenge locally.
The Foundation Trust gives local people a chance to have their
views heard – and I am keen to represent those views.
Local people in East and West Lindsey need representing across
Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to ensure our
voice is heard at a time when the Trust has competing priorities, and my
experience as a councillor in another part of the country will help to ensure
that our views are taking into consideration.
I am also keen to ensure that there is a focus on the quality of
the services provided. |
