Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU), Grimsby |
|
IntroductionThe unit, at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, provides intensive care for the population of North East Lincolnshire. It is a service for critically ill patients with potentially recoverable conditions who might benefit from a more expert and detailed management than is available at ward level. Our philosophy is to provide the highest standards of care using the experience and expertise of our highly skilled team of medical, nursing and other health care staff. There are five intensive care and two surgical high dependency beds. The unit has a Clinical Nurse Educator for critical care and there is a comprehensive induction programme for new staff. As well as caring for our patients, we also believe that it is important to care for our team and provide good staff facilities on the unit. Visiting has to be flexible but some restrictions are necessary for the safety and privacy of all patients. Generally, morning visiting is particularly difficult. It is requested that visitors use the intercom and do not walk into the unit unannounced. The ITU is situated in the main building of the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital on the first floor directly opposite the lifts. |
