Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care

Introduction

Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital

Scunthorpe General Hospital

Goole & District Hospital

Introduction

The Chaplaincy Department is led by The Revd Charles Thody, who is Trustwide Lead Chaplain. Charles is based at Scunthorpe General Hospital, but visits all the hospitals in the Trust on a regular basis. Working with him are a group of Chaplaincy Volunteers and part time Chaplains.

Charles can be contacted through the Scunthorpe Office, on extension 2489.

The Chaplaincy service provides pastoral and spiritual support for patients/relatives and staff. Regular visits to wards and departments are regarded as a priority. The team offers a 24-hour on-call system. The department can also help to arrange for patients and staff to see a representative of their own faith.
Our department has the responsibility of providing for the spiritual and pastoral care of all patients, their relatives and friends, as well as the hospital staff whatever their particular belief, faith, religion or views. Personal consultations can be arranged and all matters remain confidential. Chaplains do not keep records and do not report details of contacts and conversations to anyone.

Within the Scunthorpe and Grimsby Hospitals there are regular chapel services, the details of which are advertised on the respective notice boards and through other media. We also offer the following services on request: Holy Communion, bedside services and prayers, bedside Holy Communion (for those too ill to attend the Chapel), Services of Anointing, Confession and Reconciliation.

There is no regular chapel service at the Goole Hospital but a senior chaplain is able to offer bedside communion to patients on their weekly visit.

The Hospital Chapels on all sites are available at all times for private prayer or quiet reflection.
