IntroductionThe Path Links Immunology service has clinics in Scunthorpe and Grimsby. We also provide clinical services to Lincoln and Boston, and are part of the Trent Immunodeficiency Consortium (TRIC) - which allows us to network with immunology departments in neighbouring counties. The Path Links Immunology service sees adult patients with immunological conditions, including: recurrent infections, primary immunodeficiencies, complex allergies, urticaria and angioedema, and anaphylaxis. Children can be referred to the service from a consultant paediatrician. The service does NOT see patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, or HIV/AIDS since these are looked after by other specialities. The service is headed by Carrock Sewell, Consultant Immunologist and Visiting Professor of Immunology at Lincoln University. Carrock trained in immunology in London, Oxford and Newcastle. Sister Lesley Barsley and Sister Jill Tickle are the Immunology Specialist Nurses. They see patients and arrange investigations, as well as providing patient education and advice. The department has a number of patients on life-long immunoglobulin therapies - and patients receive treatment at both Scunthorpe and Grimsby. The department is very active in research and teaching, and runs a specialist immunology laboratory service for investigating and monitoring immunological disease. A dedicated team of biomedical scientists works closely with the clinical service. |
