IntroductionThe Post Graduate Education Centres deal with many aspects of education for: trainee doctors, vocational training scheme registrars, medical students, dental practitioners and GPs. Both PGME's hold regular educational lectures for medical staff. The PGME at Grimsby is based in the Education Centre, along with the Medical Library and the Learning Resource Centre. The Education Centre consists of:
A number of courses, which are open to both internal and external candidates are also co-ordinated by PGME and include the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course (ATLS), The Newborn Life Support Course (NLS), The Transvaginal Ultrasound Course and a Yearly Day Surgery Seminar. Additional Activities include Audit Meetings, Journal Clubs, and X-Ray meetings. Postgraduate Medical Education also houses a large stock of clinical skills equipment and audiovisual equipment, which is available for junior doctors training. The Trust Library is based in the Education Centre and there is a stock of approximately 7,000 books and holdings of over 1,000 journal titles in both paper and electronic form and boasts a Computer Room for access to on-line resources including e-books, online exam courses and MCQs as well as the major medical databases such as Medline and Embase, a Quiet Room for quiet study along with workstations situated in the Library itself. Training is available in the use of online resources. The University of Hull is also based in the Education Centre and offers various courses for the Trainee and Trained Nurse including Evidence Based Practice, Clinical Governance Course, Mentorship Course, Return to Practice and a Nurse Conversion Course. The Learning Resource Centre offers training on the (CaMIS/PAS) - the Patient Administration System, various Clinical Applications - viewing pathology results and digital imaging and is an accredited training and testing centre for both OCR and ECDL and offers training on Standard Applications Training on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet and offers a drop in service for preparation of presentations etc. The PGME at Scunthorpe is based in Butterwick House. |
