IntroductionThe Pharmacy department at Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to providing a modern medicines management service fit for the 21st century. Our patient-focussed services support 'one stop dispensing' to the majority of the hospital beds. Patients are encouraged to bring their own medicines in to hospital which, after being checked by the ward based pharmacy teams early in the patients stay, are stored in the patient’s bedside medicines locker. Any additional medicines required are supplied labelled with directions. This facilitates discharge and also enables self administration by suitable patients. Extensive skill mix and role development has seen the development of pharmacy support workers whose role has taken over dispensing from our technicians who have now been trained to perform the final accuracy check. This has allowed us to expand our clinical ward based services provided by our pharmacists and technicians. The same skill mix and role development processes are being used within our technical services which provide chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition and some intravenous additives for our in-patients. A medicines information centre on our Grimsby site answers drug related queries for doctors and other trust-based healthcare professionals, as well as supporting our Medicines & Therapeutics committee. The following services are provided by the department: |
