Speech

Introduction

The Speech & Language Therapy department provides specialised assessment and therapy for a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders. All therapists are members of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT) and are state registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC).

We operate an open referral system. This means we accept referrals not only from GPs, hospital doctors and other professionals, but also from clients themselves or their parents/carers.

The exceptions to this are voice disorders (where referrals are only accepted after assessment by an ENT consultant) and swallowing disorders (where a doctor must sign all referrals).

A Quality Service

  • The service is guided not only by the standards, policies and procedures of the RCSLT and HPC but also has its own professional standards to keep as well as fulfilling the Trust’s quality assurance programme.
  • We comply with the Trust’s complaints procedure, a copy of which is displayed in each clinic.
  • We are continually reviewing our practice and updating our specialist training in order to comply with Best Practice.
