Local bingo caller Jon Mitchell will be hitting the highway and stepping out to bring a bit of festive cheer to patients at Christmas.
Jon, who is no stranger to charity walks, is in training for his latest trek which will see him cover 90 miles over three days.
His aim is to raise as much money as he can along the way to donate to Grimsby hospital’s official charity, The Health Tree Foundation (HTF), so it can buy presents for patients at Christmas.
Jon will be pulling on his walking boots, as well as a Santa costume, and will be setting off on Monday December 2 from Grimsby’s Buzz Bingo. He aims to walk to the Scunthorpe club, then onto the Lincoln one before heading back home.
Jon said: “I aim to complete the walk in three days and will be camping out under the stars, so I am hoping for good weather along the way!
“I decided to raise money for the hospital charity because I hate the thought of people being in hospital at Christmas away from their family and friends. I just think it would be lovely if the charity had the money to buy people a little gift to help put a smile on their face.”
People wanting to support Jon, and help him spread a little bit of Christmas joy, can either donate money via his JustGiving page, or pop in to Grimsby’s Buzz Bingo and make a donation there.
HTF community champion, Katie Hubbert, said “I think it’s great what Jon is doing and I wish him well with his charity walk. Being able to buy presents for our patients who will be with us on Christmas day will be such a lovely thing to be able to do.”
