Appeal for calligrapher launched to help remember loved ones

The chaplaincy team at Scunthorpe Hospital has launched an appeal for someone with beautiful penmanship to get in touch.

They are on the hunt for a calligrapher who has an eye for detail and design to step forward and volunteer an hour or two a month.

Lead chaplain the Revd Charles Thody said: “We have two beautiful books of remembrance for adults and children in our chapel which contains the names of patients who have sadly passed away at our hospital.

“People can request to have their loved ones’ name included in the books, but we need someone with calligraphy skills to scribe the names in the tomes.”

Without a volunteer stepping forward then no new names can be added. Charles added: “People do gain a lot of comfort from seeing the name of their loved one in the book, and often come to the chapel on the date of their death to look at the books in the chapel which provides a place of quiet and reflection.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call the chaplaincy office on 03033 302489 or email terrie.young@nhs.net
