Catering staff at Goole and District Hospital have ‘served up’ a five star rating for food hygiene.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council assess against the Food Standards Agency ratings scheme. Inspectors focus on food preparation, hygiene and cleanliness and they examine training records, policies and temperature monitoring records.
Kitchens are assessed and given an overall score rating range from no stars (urgent improvement necessary) to five stars (very good). The main hospital kitchen and three ward based kitchens were inspected, resulting in a five star rating.Staff working in the kitchens serve up more than 2,000 patient meals every month.
Sarah Cross, hotel services supervisor at the hospital, said: “Food plays such an important part in our patients’ recovery and we are proud of the service we offer so we are delighted to have achieved five stars. Thank you to all the staff who contributed to this achievement.”
Patients are encouraged to provide feedback on their meals. In October 100 per cent of patients providing feedback said they were happy with the portion size, 94 per cent said it was well presented and 94 per cent said they enjoyed the food.
