Patients nominate midwives for special award

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) has celebrated International Day of the Midwife by announcing the winners of an inaugural patient-nominated award.

Jaye Fish (Scunthorpe General Hospital) and Jade Locke (Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby) were the respective winners of the ‘Outstanding Midwife’ award having gone the extra mile for patients in their care.

Both were presented with gifts including flowers after a total of 77 women voted online and outlined their reasons for nominating their midwife for the award.

Jaye was nominated for making a patient ‘completely at ease knowing she was there.’ She said: “It is fantastic; I didn’t even really know what was happening. Thanks to all the amazing people who took time out to nominate. It is really kind of all the patients to make the effort.”

The Trust also hosted a tea party in celebration of midwives at the Trust, in this country and across the globe and shared their experiences and the reasons they love working in the profession.

Jade said: “I am quite shocked to be honest. I work with some amazing midwives and I never expected to win.”
