Patients who were referred to see a consultant at Scunthorpe, Grimsby or Goole hospitals before October 2016 but are yet to receive their first appointment are being asked to get in touch.
This only applies to people referred by their GP, dentist or optician before October for a first appointment with a hospital consultant. It does not include patients awaiting follow-up appointments or people referred for x-rays, CT/MRI scans, or therapy appointments such as physiotherapy or occupational therapy. Patients referred after October 1 are not affected.
A dedicated phone number, 01472 256202, has been set up to take the calls from people who think they are affected. Patients should not contact their GP practice directly as they will not be able to access the relevant information to advise them.
Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG), which runs the three hospitals, is asking people to get in touch to ensure its waiting lists are up-to-date and accurate.
The Trust streamlined its referral process last year when it launched a new central referral gateway on October 1. All referrals are now sent through to one team where they are registered, actioned and tracked.
Interim chief executive Richard Sunley said: “We are currently carrying out reviews and checks of all of our waiting lists. As part of this work we believe there may be patients who were referred before the new central referral team was put in place, who have not been added to our waiting lists.
“We are working very closely with our commissioners (the CCGs) and local GPs to ensure patients who have been referred to us are showing on our lists. We are sorry to have to ask patients to contact us directly but we want to make sure we are taking every course of action possible to ensure we have captured everyone.
“If you have been waiting to hear from us since before October 2016 please get in touch. If you are unsure if you are affected by this, please pick up the phone and talk to us.”
Anyone who has been waiting since before October 2016 for a first appointment with a hospital consultant should call 01472 256202 so their referral details can be checked.
The phone lines will be open from 8.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Patients can also get in touch by emailing nlg-tr.SPG@nhs.net or by filling out the general enquiry form on the NLaG Trust website at https://www.nlg.nhs.uk/contact/enquiries/. Please do not call your GP practice directly as they will be unable to provide you with information.
Mr Sunley added: “Any patients who need adding to our waiting lists as a result of getting in touch with us will be slotted in at the appropriate place on the list, where they would have been had their referral shown up when it was first sent. We will review our clinic capacity to ensure people are seen as soon as possible and to reduce the impact on other patients.
“Patients who have been referred to us but no longer need their appointment are also asked to get in touch. If you are unsure if this affects you please do not hesitate to call to check.”
