Physiological measurements

The term ‘physiological measurement’  refers to services that predominantly focus on assessing the function of major organ systems, providing information on the extent of disease or disability and the provision and/or response to therapeutic interventions.

There are eight different disciplines or areas recognised within physiological measurement, providing services to almost all clinical specialities and performing around 300 different specialist tests.

Physiological measurements carried out within the department include six out of the eight possible specialities:

  • Audiology procedures
  • Bone densitometry assessments
  • Neurophysiology
  • Respiratory physiology
  • Urodynamics investigations
  • Vascular assessment.

The department is led by the head of physiological measurements and the team includes clinical physiologists, assistant practitioners and students. The department is also actively supported by consultant physicians from various disciplines.
