Lateral flow testing
All staff are encouraged to take lateral flow tests twice a week. This is not limited to clinical staff, and includes all staff across the Trust regardless of their job role.
From July 2021 staff should order lateral flow device (LFD) testing kits via the gov.uk website. When ordering, please use a modern browser such as Chrome or Safari.
Any remaining testing kit supplies staff have should be used before ordering from the gov.uk website. The test kits provided via gov.uk may be a different type, so please familiarise yourself with the tests and the instruction leaflet each time you receive a new box.
Please test twice a week from home and report all results as normal using this quick and easy online form. Alternatively, open your Outlook (work email account) and email email@example.com with either the word ‘positive’ OR ‘negative’. Please enter ‘Lateral Flow Testing’ in the subject line.
If you report a positive test, your line manager will automatically be notified. The Swabbing team will also be informed and will be in touch to arrange a PCR test to confirm the result. You must self-isolate from the moment you receive a positive result.
Please note, the statutory requirement to report all test results has not changed and staff must report all results in line with their organisation’s policy. You will not be eligible to take the tests if you have had a positive Coronavirus swab result within the last 90 days – please continue testing after 90 days.
If you need further information or support in carrying out the tests or reporting your results, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Updated FAQs are to come.
Online tool for staff who have been told to isolate
New government guidance outlines how in some circumstances staff who are critical to keeping NHS services running can be brought back to work early from isolation.
We’ve developed an in house online self-assessment tool for staff who have been told they need to isolate by the COVID-19 app or Test and Trace. It’s voluntary and will take you through a series of questions to determine whether it is safe for you to return to work – i.e you are exempt from isolating or not and your role is critical to maintain a safe service.
If you are exempt from isolation, your manager or the ICC helpdesk will arrange for a rapid swab to be done to get you back to work. You can only return to work after a negative PCR test, you will need to continue to wear PPE while at work and take a lateral flow test every day of the period you were meant to be isolating. Staff will be able to come to work but will need to isolate when not at work.
The tool is for frontline staff who have received a ‘Close Proximity’ notification or are classed as a ‘contact’ to a positive case. There are some exceptions: e.g. if a member of your household is the positive contact then you do need to isolate and you can’t be exempt if you are not double vaccinated.
A list of FAQs has been produced and any queries can be discussed with the ICC helpdesk on 03033 306644.
