Our Council of Governors represent the interests of local communities, partners and staff in the development of our organisation.

Ian Reekie

Lead Governor and Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire

Ian became involved in NHS governance following his retirement as North Lincolnshire Council’s Director of Leisure. He first served as a non-executive director with North Lincolnshire PCT then as a lay member on the governing body of North Lincolnshire CCG.  Ian moved to Cleethorpes from Barton-upon-Humber in 2012 and has been a North East Lincolnshire public governor since 2018.  He was elected as NLaG’s Lead Governor in 2020.

Rob Pickersgill

Deputy Lead Governor and Public Governor - Goole & Howdenshire

Rob is an Economist and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance

and Accountancy and has held senior financial and managerial posts in Local Government, Further and Higher Education and the Financial Services sector.  Rob is now Managing Director of a local manufacturing company.

Rob is deeply concerned about potential changes to the NHS and wants to understand more fully the nature of the financial and structural challenges faced by the sector as a whole and by the Trust in particular.

Brent Huntington

Public Governor

Brent has recently retired after 22 years in Local Government and has been involved in local healthcare since having a lifesaving operation in 2007 where the process started from primary care at a local GP Surgery with referral to Goole and District Hospital.  Brent quickly developed an interest in healthcare locally and became involved in meetings and discussions with Cllrs, Local Authority and the Trust. All of this led to further meetings with Trust members and the creation of the Goole Hospital Forum which subsequently led to the Healthy Life Healthy Futures for Goole. Through this work Brent gained a better understanding of how the NHS works, how the Trust is governed and who the commissioners are. Going forward, Brent hopes the knowledge learned will be of help to the people of Goole and Howdenshire where he is a big advocate for member representation and wants to ensure your voice is heard.

Diana Barnes

Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire

Diana has previous experience of working in the NHS in the acute setting and primary care and has an ophthalmic technician certificate and a certificate in nuclear medicine.  This provides Diana with an understanding of different aspects of care and awareness of where problems can occur.  Diana is a member of ACCORD which provides greater understanding of funding and its allocation.  Diana also volunteers at her local NHS surgery and also works with the volunteer service to contact lonely people.

Mike Bateson

Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire

Mike is a lifelong resident of Cleethorpes and a former member of staff. After he retired from the NHS Mike continued to work with local voluntary organisations to influence and support the delivery of health and community care within NE Lincolnshire. He is a Trustee of Friendship at Home, a member of Accord and a past board member of Healthwatch NEL.

David James

Public Governor - North East Lincolnshire

David joined the RAF as a Medic in 1986 when almost 18 and has spent his entire career to date in the caring profession.  Upon leaving the RAF in 2022 David was successful in his application to work for the Lincolnshire NHS maternity services in a new role as a Military Care Navigator.  During his RAF Career David worked predominantly in the Primary Care setting and has always been passionate about the patient experience and ensuring appropriate, patient centred, timely healthcare is provided.  David later became a Specialist Advisor for the CQC and assisted them in inspecting RAF, Army, and Royal Navy medical establishments.

Kevin Allen

Public Governor - North Lincolnshire

Kevin trained as an Aircraft Engineer in the army, serving in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in the UK, Germany, Cyprus and Northern Ireland.  Upon leaving the army Kevin joined Her Majesty’s Prison & Youth Offender Institution in Doncaster as the Fire and Safety officer, later becoming the Compliance Officer, responsible for all aspects on Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Quality and Environmental Management.  Kevin is actively involved in the community as a football referee and run leader at Scunthorpe & District Athletic Club.

Wendy Lawtey

Public Governor - North Lincolnshire

Wendy has lived and worked within North Lincolnshire for many years having moved to the area to undertake nurse training with a career change in 1993 to take up employment with the Local Authority.  Within this role Wendy continued to work closely with the Trust in developing integrated services and following a further career change remains committed to supporting the health system and feels the role of a Governor is a great opportunity to do this.

Wendy has developed a range of skills throughout her working life including organisational financial, performance, workforce development and is a qualified performance development coach, all of which will be helpful in the Governor role with an excellent understanding of the health system and the challenges.

Caroline Ridgway

Public Governor - North Lincolnshire

Caroline has previous experience as a school Parental Governor and has been a member of the Patient Panel for several years, attending meetings and making recommendations for improvements.

Caroline is a qualified Podiatrist due to start a PhD in January 2024, and has knowledge and understanding of the clinical aspects of the Trust.  Caroline also has a degree in Law, has taught this subject for a number of years, and remains an examiner for a major UK exam board.  On a personal level, Caroline has experience as both a patient and carer, which means direct experience in several aspects of patient care.

Paula Ashcroft

Public Governor - North Lincolnshire

Paula currently works for the local authority as Persons Voice Coordinator and has worked with vulnerable adults, children and parents/carers for over 20 years.  Working with a diverse range of people, including senior citizens, people with learning and physical disabilities, mental health issues and neuro divergent conditions Paula is a valuable voice from these areas.

Clare Woodard

Public Governor - Goole and Howdenshire

Clare has over two decades working in leadership within the voluntary, health, and charity sectors and brings a deep commitment to community engagement and a strong understanding of local healthcare and social needs.

Clare is Head of Strategy and Delivery at the HEY Smile Foundation, focussing on improving community experiences by

listening to and addressing the needs of local people through the voluntary sector.  Clare was previously the Charity Manager for the Health Tree Foundation and during this time led projects to improve dementia-friendly wards and secure funding for emergency departments in Scunthorpe and Grimsby hospitals.  Clare has extensive experience working with NHS Trust Boards, local authorities, and community steering groups, gaining a solid understanding of how to balance community needs with governance.

Jeremy Baskett

Public Governor - East and West Lindsey

Jeremy has many years of both clinical and managerial NHS experience in both the hospital and community setting providing him with experience of managing and understanding NHS and social care finances. Jeremy has a strong desire to ensure closer working between social and health care organisations to protect local services, and is passionate about public involvement in decision making for their local NHS.

Jenny Aspinwall

Public Governor - East and West Lindsey

Jenny trained as an Accountant, and during 30 years of practice, experienced companies and people in financial difficulties.  These interventions/relationships lead me into training as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist.

Jenny built a Counselling Practice, whilst working part time in the NHS; counselling staff at Benenden Healthcare in York; and Co-presenting ‘Complementary Therapy Courses’ for Hull York Medical School.  Jenny retired from full time work and now works part time in a Private Practice from home.

Dr Gorajala Vijay

Public Governor - East and West Lindsey

Dr Vijay is a retired NHS consultant who has worked in the NHS for over 40 years gaining vast experience in the delivery of best patient care.  Having held various senior management positions in the health service and medical education & research, Dr Vijay has a thorough understanding of the increasing pressure to improve early diagnosis, treat patients efficiently and reduce hospital running costs.

Sakkaf Ahmed Aftab

Staff Governor

Mr Aftab has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Trust since 2002, has been active in medical politics for last 18 years and has the skills and experience to make a real difference.

The following qualifications have been achieved: MBBS, MRCOphth (London), FRCS (Edinburgh) and a Fellowship in Medical and Surgical Retina (Centre of Eye Research Australia). He is a member of the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons,

British and European Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons, and the American Academy Ophthalmology.

Mr Aftab passionately believes in removing social and health inequalities that exist in our society and wants to positively influence the strategic direction of

travel for our Trust to ensure that in future any change in how we deliver services to local population reduces the health inequalities in our local communities .

Jackie Weavill

Staff Governor

Jackie has over 20 years of NHS experience and is currently working as a Quality Governance Manager, has a deep understanding of the challenges of staff and is committed to representing their views and ideas.  Throughout Jackie’s career an invaluable insight has been gained by working closely with colleagues across different departments throughout the Trust. As a Staff Governor, Jackie would use her extensive experience to challenge, support, and work collaboratively with other Governors to drive positive change and is passionate about ensuring the well-being of both staff and patients. Jackie’s background would make her uniquely qualified to contribute to the Trust’s ongoing success and her commitment to this role is rooted in her desire to be a strong voice for colleagues, ensuring their concerns and aspirations are heard and addressed.

Dr Sandeep Saxena

Staff Governor

Dr Saxena is a Consultant Anaesthetist and has worked at Scunthorpe General Hospital for nearly 20 years with a special interest in learning disability and dementia with an understanding of the challenges faced by healthcare in the UK.  Dr Saxena is passionate about the quality, safety and equity of care to patients and feels services must be designed around patient needs.

Dr Saxena not only has experience as a senior medical leader with the Trust as well as within the Local Negotiating Committee having previously served as a local authority and special school Governor. He is enthusiastic about the opportunity to be a Staff Governor and is very committed to upholding the our values and ensuring that outstanding care is provide to patients.

Corrin Manaley

Staff Governor

Corrin has worked in the Trust for seven years within the Patient Experience team and now the nursing Quality Assurance team.  Corrin is passionate about ensuring patients receive the best quality care in a safe environment, staff are able to share their views and in doing so, feel heard by the organisation.  Corrin hopes that by utilising her experiences and knowledge to contribute to the role it will make a difference within the organisation.

Emma Mundey

Stakeholder Governor - North Lincolnshire Place

I am currently the Head of Contracts for the Humber & North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and have been working in the commissioning arm of the NHS for over 20 years. My experience spans both contract management and business intelligence and analytics, and I collaborate closely with provider’s and partner organisations across the patch.

Professionally, my ambition is to create strong trusted relationships between all health and social care stakeholders in North Lincolnshire, ultimately driving the best outcomes for patients. My experience and background mean that I am well placed to contribute effectively to the governance of the Trust, and I hope to help wherever I can.  Personally, I’m a local resident of North Lincolnshire, a busy mum of three boys, and a Rugby fanatic including being a Scunthorpe Rugby Union Club Mini Junior committee member.

Councillor Paul Henderson

Stakeholder Governor – North East Lincolnshire Council

Paul has spent his adult life in health and social care. Having started life in Finance and HR at Grimsby Area Health Authority, he went on to manage Regional R&D Programmes, and lead national technology and data programmes on Whitehall. He founded a health analytics programme, which won international awards for innovation, before becoming a senior leader in the Primary Care industry at Emis.

He went on to be part of KPMG and become a Partner at Digital Transformation company, Channel 3. He currently runs the health and care consulting team at international life sciences firm, IQVIA, who are also the largest operator of Clinical Trials in the UK.

Paul is one of the Independent Councillors for Yarborough Ward. Married with three children and his dog, he is a season ticket older at Grimsby Town Football Club, but not very good at football.

Councillor David Howard

Stakeholder Governor – East Riding of Yorkshire Council

David’s career has spanned 45 years, firstly in theatre and then in event and video production working in over forty countries.

David has been involved in the local voluntary sector, has served on Howden Town Council for 5 years and was proud to have been elected as Ward Councillor for Howden in May 2023.
