Christmas cheer is coming to children in Scunthorpe hospital this weekend when the Scunny Bikers roar into town.
Kids on the Disney Ward will receive a bumper load of goodies, as part of the bikers’ annual festive run on Sunday 14 December.
A convoy of motorcyclists will meet at The Old Farmhouse pub and restaurant on Doncaster Road at 11am and leave at 12.30pm, travelling to Gunness and Burringham before arriving at the Church Lane entrance of the hospital between 1.15pm and 1.30pm.
Gavin Stubbs, event organiser, said: “We’re expecting around 150 and 200 bikers on the day. I want to say a big thank you to the local supermarkets and the community for all the donations. We’ve got things for the younger and older kids – from toys and sweets to pyjamas and toiletries.
“This is the 13th year we’ve done the Christmas run and we love being able to put a smile on the children’s faces.”
This year, trolleys have been up in Asda and Tesco in Scunthorpe for members of the public to donate items. There’s also a collection point at Jenny’s Café in Hibaldstow.
Vikki McAlpline, Disney’s ward manager, said: “We are truly grateful to Scunny Bikers for organising their Christmas toy run. The children’s faces light up when they see all of the fantastic gifts. “It’s tough for children in hospital at any time of the year but it’s particularly hard at Christmas. This helps take their mind off what they’re going through.”
