Today is National Healthcare Estates and Facilities day – a celebration of the teams you may not see when you come into our hospitals but who all play a vital role in keeping them functioning.
They are the ones maintaining and monitoring vital systems like our medical gas and water supplies, looking after our grounds, cooking meals for patients and staff, and managing the disposal of our waste.
They keep everything moving, getting patients, staff, medical records and equipment around and between our sites, they make sure our wards and departments are clean, that our staff have scrubs and patients have fresh, comfortable linen. They manage our spaces, making sure we’re getting the most out of our buildings, work with external partners such as our cafes and shops and build new facilities.
Some of them you’re more likely to have encountered – such as our switchboard teams answering the phones, our Porters helping to transport patients to wards or procedures – all with a ready laugh and a reassuring word – or our Security teams keeping us all safe.
There are literally dozens of roles – and we couldn’t do what we do to care for you without any of them.
Group Director of Estates, Facilities and Development, Tom Myers, who leads the team for NHS Humber Health Partnership, said: “I’m really proud of every single member of our Estates, Facilities, and Development teams.
“Without them, our hospitals simply wouldn’t function and, while they may not be the ones providing clinical care, their work is just as vital in caring for our patients.
“As today is National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day, I want to take this opportunity to thank them all for their dedication, passion and hard work.”
