The Neurosurgical Department at Hull Royal Infirmary has been given a £7,000 boost thanks to Hull actress and comedian Debra Stephenson and members of the team.
Consultant Neurosurgeon Mr Anuj Bahl, his wife Amy and their friend Chris Fullard pulled together a glitzy event at Hull KR’s function room, with a three-course meal before entertainment provided by Debra Stephenson, star of hit TV shows including Bad Girls, Coronation Street and Doctors.
Money raised from the event will be donated to the Brocklehurst Neurosurgical Fund, established in 1982 by leading Hull neurosurgeon Gordon Brocklehurst, who died in November at the age of 93.
The gifted impressionist entertained guests, including Mr Brocklehurst’s wife, Hilary, with impressions of stars including Lorraine Kelly and Melania Trump, wife of US President Donald.

Mr Bahl said: “Debra asked if there was any way she could help the team after I operated successfully on a close family member and this is what we came up with. She was fantastic.
“I’m really grateful to Debra but also to my wife Amy and my friend Chris Fullard who used their contacts and organisational skills to make the event a massive success.”
Members of the community and players and staff at Hull KR also generously donated both time and money during the auction and raffles during the evening.
All funds raised from the event will now support the charity which uses fundraising activities and donations to purchase neurosurgical equipment at Hull Royal Infirmary, as well as provide training and educational material for staff.
