Children in hospital over Easter will receive goodies thanks to a brand new toy and Easter egg run in Grimsby.
The ‘North East Lincs Toy Run’ will take place on Saturday 28 March at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, with kids on our paediatric wards and other areas benefiting from the gifts. It’s been organised by Wyatt Motor Group and SW Cleaning.
Toys and Easter egg donations are being collected for the day, and funds are being raised for The Health Tree Foundation – the charity of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.
Organiser Jamie Wyatt recently moved to the town from Essex and wanted to recreate a similar event they used to have there.
He said: “They used to do the Cambridge toy run for the hospital every year. I couldn’t see anything like this happening in Grimsby, so decided to give it a go. It’s always good to help the children in hospital and cheer them up over Easter.
“We’ve been asking local businesses for donations and trying to drum up support. It’s the first one but if it goes well, we’re hoping to make it an annual event.”
Jamie said they’ll be a mix of cars and motorbikes on the day. They’ll be meeting at the Grimsby Auditorium at 9am to pack the bags, before heading over to the hospital between 10.30am and 11am.
Debbie Bray, Nurse Director for Paediatrics, said: “I want to say a big thank you to Jamie and everyone involved in this event. It’s always tough for children to be in hospital over Easter and this will hopefully put a smile on their faces.”
The event is also raising money for St Andrew’s Hospice in Grimsby.
