From supporting families through complex treatment journeys to providing reassurance at times of fear and uncertainty, local people have again been putting forward their Healthcare Heroes for a special award – and the latest shortlist has now been revealed.
A specialist nurse at Castle Hill Hospital, a ward clerk at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, and a specialist paediatric team at Hull Royal Infirmary have all been named as finalists for the Healthcare Heroes award, which is nominated for by patients and their families.
The accolade is one of 15 awards set to be presented at the Golden Stars ceremony, celebrating and recognising the achievements of staff across Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Among those shortlisted is Alexis Rayne, a specialist nurse at Castle Hill Hospital, who has been praised for her compassion, clinical expertise and patient advocacy. One powerful example highlighted her proactive review of diagnostic imaging, which identified that a patient’s disease had progressed, preventing them from undergoing major surgery that would not have provided benefit. Her clear communication and emotional support have made a lasting difference to patients and their families.
Bethany Martin, a ward clerk in Same Day Emergency Care at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, has also been recognised for her outstanding kindness and professionalism. As the first point of contact for patients, she creates a calm and reassuring environment, helping to reduce anxiety at what can be a stressful time and ensuring individuals feel informed, supported and respected throughout their visit.
Rounding off the shortlist is the Talipes Team at Hull Royal Infirmary, who provide specialist care to children undergoing treatment for clubfoot. Supporting families from infancy through ongoing follow-up, the team has been commended for their empathy, clear communication and commitment to achieving the best outcomes, while also reducing anxiety for parents during what can be an emotional journey.
Earlier this year, members of the public were invited to submit nominations, with a judging panel including patient representatives narrowing entries down to the finalists.
Winners will be announced at Golden Stars 2026 on Friday 10 July at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Hull.
