Having a baby? Come along to our new Nest and Nurture Fairs to give your child the best start in life.
Starting in October, our special events will be held on the first Thursday of every month, switching between the Maternity Units at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and Scunthorpe General Hospital every four weeks.
Community midwives, experts in labour and delivery and baby care specialists will attend the Nest and Nurture Fairs to give you all the information you need to have a healthy pregnancy, a great birth experience and a fantastic start to life with your new baby.
You’ll learn about healthy eating, looking after your pelvic health and keeping active during pregnancy, essential parenting skills like fitting a car seat and safe sleeping techniques and tips on breast feeding, weaning and home safety once your baby’s here.
Our vaccination team will also be at Nest and Nurture Fairs to check your baby has vital protection against potentially dangerous illnesses like whooping cough and RSV in the first few months and answer any questions you may have about vaccine safety in pregnancy.
Vicki Booth, Matron in Maternity Services at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, said: “If you’re pregnant, make a note in your diary to come along to our Nest and Nurture Fair.
“It’s a one-stop shop for all you’ll need to know about pregnancy, giving birth and looking after your new baby.”
Claire Brothwell, Matron in Maternity Services at Scunthorpe General Hospital, said: “Our events are probably more suited to later pregnancy rather than those who’ve just found out they’re pregnant but you’ll be welcome to attend at any time after your pregnancy has been confirmed.
“We’ll have representatives from lots of different services, covering all aspects of pregnancy, birth and those crucial first weeks of life to help answer any questions you might have.”
The first event will be held in the Maternity Unit on the ground floor of Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby as a pilot event on Thursday, October 2. It’ll then switch to the Antenatal Clinic on the ground floor of Scunthorpe General Hospital (Church Lane entrance) as a trial on Thursday, November 6. The full monthly programme will launch in February after the two events in October and November are evaluated by staff.
All Nest and Nurture Fairs will run from 7pm to 8.30pm and you’re welcome to bring your partner or other members of your family, including children.
Community midwives, members of our hospital-based midwifery team and our pelvic health midwife will be at all events with representatives from the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP), giving prospective and new parents a chance to influence and shape services, and North East Lincs and North Lincs Councils.
There’s no need to book – just head to our maternity units on the night for a guaranteed warm welcome.
