“The world’s your oyster – you can achieve anything you put your mind to”.
That’s the message that’s been sent loud and clear to our Project Search interns, who have completed their first rotations with teams across our hospitals in Grimsby and Scunthorpe and are now moving into their second placement.
Project Search is a fantastic initiative designed to help young people with learning disabilities to gain real experience of working in the NHS at our hospitals in Grimsby and, for the first time this year, Scunthorpe too.
Working in partnership with Linkage Community Trust, Grimsby, and Trent View College, Scunthorpe, each of the 10 interns will spend a year working with us, rotating between placements with a number of different teams and functions including catering, facilities, maintenance, library services, administration, portering, and security.
And for both the interns and the teams they have been working with, their first rotation has been a big success.
When working with the Porters at Grimsby, taking on roles within Pharmacy Portering and Stores Portering, Jake’s reliability, work ethic and adaptability really impressed.

Logistics Co-ordinator, Tom Roberts, said: “Jake has demonstrated a strong ability to learn and integrate new responsibilities quickly. His communication skills are consistently good, and he interacts professionally with colleagues, clinical staff and patients.
“Although these tasks can be demanding and, at times, challenging, Jake has never hesitated to get involved or take initiative. He remains focused, dependable, and shows a willingness to go above and beyond when required.
“His polite manner and positive attitude contribute to a supportive working environment, and he continues to show steady progress in his role.”
Alfie has been working with the Estates team at Scunthorpe and enjoyed it so much, that’s where he sees his future career.

Estates Manager, Rhys Bevan, said: “It’s been a pleasure to have Alfie come to work with us. His progression in confidence and communication while working alongside the team has been clear to see.”
Similarly, Keane has made a great impression on the Libraries and Knowledge Services team during his time working in Scunthorpe’s library.

Trust Library Services Manager, Chris Lawton, said: “He made a valuable contribution in his time with us, that has been greatly appreciated by me and the team.”
After such a fantastic start, we’re really looking forward to seeing how the interns continue to grow and progress as they take on their next challenge.
Keep checking back to find out more about how they’re getting on.
