Patients on a breast unit at Grimsby hospital will benefit from thousands raised by the former Mayor of North East Lincolnshire.
The Pink Rose Suite cares for people who need to use its breast imaging and diagnostic service.
Councillor Ian Lindley, who works in Grimsby Theatres as an Operating Department Practitioner, was elected as Mayor in 2023 and chose The Pink Rose Suite as one of his charities to raise money for, through The Health Tree Foundation.
Over the course of 12 months, Ian took part in a number of fundraising events, including a 24-hour dance-a-thon! He raised more than £5,000 for the unit.
Ian said: “The dancing challenge was particularly tough but it went really well. There were people popping down throughout it to support me, so a big thank you to everyone who came along.
“There were also a few charity nights and a Mayor’s Ball, which raised lots of money. The generosity of people has been overwhelming.”
A charity race night at Swagger in Scartho raised £3,000 for The Pink Rose Suite. The dance-a-thon raised £2,000, with half going to the unit and half going to Sunflowers Children’s Action Group – the other charity Ian was fundraising for.
The Pink Rose Suite is close to his heart as his wife and former Mayoress, Helen Lindley, works on there as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The couple also have the unit to thank for their introduction, as they met at a social event to raise money for it.
Ian added: “With us both working at the hospital and Helen working on the unit, it felt like a natural choice. The staff are fantastic and I see first-hand the terrific care patients get.
“Lots of people will have either been affected by breast cancer or know people who have. Many people will benefit from our efforts, as the donations will help the team purchase new equipment. Technology is constantly evolving so we need to be able to adapt.”
