Not one but three of our nursing healthcare support workers had the surprise of their life when they were awarded with special Chief Nursing Officer for England awards in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
The awards were especially poignant as they were handed out on Nursing Support Workers’ Day. This is an annual event held to shine a light and celebrate this group of staff who make a difference every day to the lives of patients they care for and the nursing colleagues they support.
Our delighted award winners were Chloe Seymour, Sandra Cooke, and Courtney Cowie.
They are shining examples of the many healthcare support workers we have across our services, who provide essential hands-on care to our patients.
Jenny Hinchliffe, Deputy Chief Nurse
Chloe, who has worked on Ward 23 at Scunthorpe since December 2022, received her award for her remarkable dedication, rapid learning, and commitment to patient safety and care, embodying the core values of nursing and becoming a valued advocate for both patients and colleagues. Her nomination read: “To Chloe, caring isn’t ‘just a job’ it is a career, and she enjoys making a difference to those that she cares for.”
Sandra, who works on Scunthorpe’s Acute Assessment Unit, received her award for her rapid learning, compassionate care, commitment to excellence, serving as an exemplary role model and advocate. She has worked for the Trust since August 2022, and her nomination included: “Sandra treats patients as though they are all her own family. Although relatively new to her role she extends her care to other new members of the nursing team.”
Patient Care Navigator Courtney Cowie, who works on B7 at Grimsby, received hers for her exceptional dedication to patient care, her proactive support for learners and new staff, and her embodiment of our trust values of kindness, courage, and respect. Her nomination said: “Courtney embodies our vision and values of kindness, courage and respect in all she does whether with her colleagues or patients. She has the courage to be an advocate for the patient ensuring their discharge is completed quickly and appropriately but also for the students and new staff members that she takes under her wing.”
Jenny Hinchliffe, Deputy Chief Nurse, said: “I am extremely proud of Chloe, Sandra and Courtney for their unwavering hard work and dedication. They are shining examples of the many healthcare support workers we have across our services, who provide essential hands-on care to our patients, as well as supporting our nursing, clinical, and allied health professional teams.
“It is a real achievement to receive a Chief Nursing Officer award and I am delighted to have shared in the surprise, as they knew absolutely nothing about the awards.”
The certificates were awarded to the trio by Victoria Bagshaw, NHS England North East and Yorkshire (NEY) Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Workforce Lead and Rachel Hall, NHSE NYE Health Care Support Worker Programme Lead.
