A number of our staff have scooped awards at this year’s Hull York Medical School (HYMS) Teaching Excellence Awards.
The full list of nominees and details about the criteria for the different categories can be found on the HYMS website. The awards are for those staff who have inspired, supported, and had a positive impact on students’ lives and education.
Below are our winners from both Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation (NLaG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH), with some of the comments from the students’ who nominated them:
Physician Associate Studies Teaching Award
Emily Holmes, Physician Associate, HUTH, for being generous with her time, providing valuable insights, creating a positive and encouraging learning environment, going above and beyond and always willing to offer advice.
Secondary Care Teaching Award
Dr Anwer Qureshi, Acute Care, NLaG, for being a highly dedicated teacher, promoting a culture of diversity, respect and admiration, and having a values-driven teaching style.
Dr Vijaykumar Singh, Acute Care, NLaG, for being an energetic and enthusiastic teacher, pushing students to think about each patient encounter, and helping them become more adaptable and thoughtful in their clinical approach.
Dr Oliver Simmonds, Emergency Medicine, HUTH, for being compassionate, knowledgeable and skilled, having a great rapport with patients, and making students feel confident.
Administrative Excellence Award
Student Liaison Office (SLO) Team, Scunthorpe, NLaG, for making a big difference to students’ experience, always being approachable and making sure students feel supported.
SLO Team, Grimsby, NLaG, for creating a nurturing environment, treating students like family and being an exceptional team.
Clinical Teaching Fellow of the Year Award
Dr Rebecca Playfor, HUTH, for helping students feel prepared and supported, her organisation, responsiveness and kindness, and always being available to answer questions.
