We’re looking for more volunteers to support patients and visitors at Grimsby hospital.
You will be based in our busy reception area, providing a warm welcome to people coming through the front doors, directing them to their appointments and helping them find wheelchairs.
Vicki Andrews, volunteer coordinator, said: “Our volunteers are an integral part of our team and we’re now recruiting more people into these valuable roles.
“We’re on the lookout for people who are friendly, enjoy being active and want to make a difference to people’s lives.
“If you’re looking for a fast-paced volunteering opportunity, in which you will meet people from all walks of life, this opportunity to join our volunteers at Grimsby could be for you.
“This particular volunteering role requires someone with the energy and enthusiasm to work at the front entrance, as well as walking to and from other areas across the large site such as the new car drop off point, nursery car park and bus stop when required.”
Why you should join our volunteers
Volunteering with us has never been more rewarding. Many changes are taking place at the hospitals, including the building of new emergency departments and decked car parks at both Grimsby and Scunthorpe.
Vicki added: “It can be difficult visiting a new hospital or one where things have changed since your last visit. Our volunteers are as important as ever as they support our patients and visitors during these changes and beyond.”
Other volunteering opportunities at the hospitals could include being on the wards or completing admin tasks.
Volunteers are welcome to join us for as little as a few hours per week, to a day here and there with the flexibility to suit everyone. It could also be during weekdays or on weekends.
Anyone aged 17 and above can volunteer.
All volunteers undergo a DBS check and must be cleared by occupational health, as well as pass the Trust’s staff COVID-19 risk assessment. Full training will be provided, and they will be supported by the voluntary services team.
Sandra Davis, volunteer at Grimsby hospital, said: “A smile and a friendly word goes a long way to reassure people who may be feeling very vulnerable.”
