Today we’re celebrating our Estates and Facilities teams – the hidden heroes who keep our hospitals running smoothly, allowing our clinical staff to give you excellent care.
When you think about our hospitals, it’s likely that the first thing that comes to mind are our fantastic doctors and nurses.
However, they couldn’t do what they do without the support of their colleagues in Estates and Facilities, who are here to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
We’re proud to employ 681 people across the directorate, carrying out roles in everything from project management, security and engineering to cleaning, maintenance, and logistics.
And as today marks the first National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day, we want to take the opportunity to tell you more about how their work helps us to care for you.
We are Estates and Facilities
Director of Estates and Facilities, Jug Johal, said: “So much of what we do has a direct impact on the quality of your care and every role in Estates and Facilities is vital in delivering this.
“We help to prevent the spread of infection by keeping our hospitals sparkling clean; help to get you back on your feet by giving you the nutritious food you need to heal and mend; transport patients, staff, equipment and supplies to where they need to be and ensure that the key systems like our heating, lighting, and medical gas supply are working efficiently.
“We’re also here to invest in the future of your healthcare, whether that’s through driving our commitment to reduce waste and recycle more; designing and building new facilities such as our Emergency Departments and MRIs, or generating income – for example, by providing other healthcare providers with cutting edge digital systems developed and maintained by NLaG teams.
“Finally, we keep you safe, both in terms of our security staff who patrol our sites and in ensuring that our all our sites and facilities meet national standards.
“I am immensely proud of every single member of my team and everything they do to support you and hope you will join us in celebrating their achievements on National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day.”
