Babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Grimsby hospital will benefit from an £8,000 donation from a team of fundraisers.
This is the sixth year that Mike Croft, Managing Director of Grimsby Cars, and others have raised money for NICU. So far, they have raised £40,000 for the unit.
This year’s donation will go towards items and equipment on NICU, to help improve the experience our babies receive.
Mr Croft said it’s a real team effort and they raised the money through events such as a charity football match, an auction, a raffle, a family fun day and much more.
He said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to raise £8,000 this year for NICU, beating last year’s total of £7,000. Over the years, it’s got bigger and bigger and lots of local businesses get involved.
“The idea for raising money for NICU came from a couple of players on our Sunday league football team, who have children that have had to use the ward over the years. We wanted to give something back to say thank you for everything the wonderful staff do for the babies and their families.”
Previous raffle prizes have included £1,000, an Aston Martin test drive for an afternoon and a holiday to Las Vegas!
Mr Croft wanted to say a big thanks to everyone involved but especially Phil Briggs, who bumped the total up to £8,000.
“We’re aiming for £10,000 next year!”, Mr Croft added.
Previous items that have been purchased via the money raised include respiratory support machines and cuddling gowns for parents to be able to hold their babies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Croft wanted to appeal to any other local businesses that would like to team up and help them raise funds for NICU in the future to get in touch via [email protected].
Jennifer Copley, NICU Ward Sister, said: “It’s just incredible that they’ve raised this amount of money. It will go towards purchasing those extra things that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. They are such lovely people and we’re really grateful for everything they do for us.”
