If you come into Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby due to alcohol-related issues, or tell us you depend on alcohol, you may be referred to our Alcohol Care Team (ACT).
Our ACT can support you with your withdrawal from alcohol.
Our ACT Clinical Nurse Specialists will speak with you and assess you during your hospital stay. They will try to understand more about your relationship with alcohol, provide you with disease-related advice and implement a treatment plan, in conjunction with other healthcare staff.
Treatment plans will vary depending on the extent of your drinking and whether you’re trying to drink less alcohol or give up alcohol completely. Your treatment plan may include a Fibroscan (an ultrasound on your liver) to help identify any potential liver damage. You may also be offered psychological interventions such as 1-1 support and education, guidance on safe reduction of alcohol and referral to appropriate services to enable a safe level of alcohol intake or abstinence.
“A huge thank you to the team because I think they were the main part of me being able to get to this stage. If I’d been sent home that day, it would have been a completely different outcome.”

This service aims to reduce hospital admissions, reduce the length of time our patients spend in hospital and prevent our patients being re-admitted to hospital.
The team works in partnership with other community alcohol services.
