He said: “I want to page huge tribute to Her Majesty and the tremendous achievements she made in her life.
“I have had the privilege to meet her on a couple of occasions when she was opening new hospital buildings in London, and she was every bit as impressive as an individual as all the tributes would indicate.”
One of the proudest moments in the history of Scunthorpe General Hospital was when Queen Elizabeth officially opened our new £15-million ward and theatre block on 19 May, 1993.
Her signature is still on display in a commemorative guest book in our Church Lane entrance and this is one of the photographs from the day.
Tonight, where it is operationally appropriate, our staff and patients are invited to observe the one-minute silence at 8pm to reflect on her life and legacy.
