We are proud to be a Veteran Aware Trust and signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, improving care for veterans, reservists and serving members of the Armed Forces.
As part of the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VC HA) our pledge to you is that if you or your family need our care:
- Our staff are trained to understand your specific culture and needs
- We will always make you aware of any appropriate services or charities that we think you could benefit from
- We will ensure you are never disadvantaged compared to other patients, as set out in the NHS’ commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
- As a holder of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award, we will also support those who have served in the Armed Forces as an employer
The initiative is led by our Veterans Champions – Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities, Simon Tighe and Lead Medical Examiner, Mr Gordon McAdam – who are both former servicemen.
Simon, who served in the Royal Navy Submarine Service for 20 years, said: “A number of our staff – myself and Gordon included – come from a military background and we know the challenges you face as a veteran or serving member of the forces, as well as those faced by your family and loved ones.
“We are committed to doing all we can to provide you with the support you need, giving you excellent standards of care and helping you to access specialist services should you need them.
“We also pride ourselves on providing long-term career options for those transitioning from life in the forces to civvy-street and there are many life skills that are transferrable from the military into the NHS.”
